If you want to experience the duality of Istanbul’s ancient Orient and European modernity, Taksim will certainly provide that contrast for you. Taksim is in the European part of Istanbul where you will find a much more modern and familiar Western ambience.
The streets of Taksim were filled with busy pedestrians as they strolled by restaurants, cafes, popular retail stores, shopping malls, universities, nightclubs and its popular Taksim Square. We also came across one of Istanbul’s heritage vintage trams which was fun to ride on, even for just a picture.
After walking along for a few hours, we took a break at Istanbul’s elegant Hafiz Mustafa Cafe where we enjoyed some pistachio and pomegranate lokum and a sweet cup of Turkish tea.
