This past weekend marked exactly three months since quarantine began. As restrictions slowly start to loosen up in our city, I thought I’d document these last months in photos. My goal was to highlight beauty that was present during a period when time seemed uncertain and when time truly stood still.
Let’s talk about time for a second.
I know I’m not the only one who feels that the concept of time has felt very muddled lately. Flipping through another calendar month feels so monotonous as nothing in our life has changed yet each birthday, anniversary, milestone, Holiday and season continue to pass just as silently as it came. And let’s not even talk about the pang that comes with “Today would have been…”.
But whenever I’d feel that aching for what could have been, what used to be, or the uncertainty of what will be, I just as quickly remind myself of the certainties I do have. What I am sure of. What I can actually see, hear, taste, touch and feel. The moments I can actually soak in. No distractions, no busy schedules. Just time on my hands.
The time to make fresh coffee each morning, the time to steal a kiss between Zoom meetings, the time to write and mail a card to the people I miss dearly, the time to make homemade bread, or the way the 8pm sun spills into our living room that we never used to notice before. Those little moments remind me that there’s nowhere else to be but here.
