“The moon was up, painting the world silver,
making things look just a little more alive.”
– N.D. Wilson
The moon seems to find me whenever my mind wanders too far.
Sometimes, I get so caught up in the spiral of my internal monologue that the sight of the moon is a gentle interruption.

As if the moon is telling me, hey.
Slow down.
Look up.
Breathe.

The moon always seems to appear when I need her most. Our paths seem to cross at the cusp of change, before I even realize that something in my life is shifting.
Her presence restores a sense of balance and perspective whenever I need to shake off whatever’s been bothering me down here on Earth, and look up at something bigger than myself.
Whether she’s brilliantly full, half-lit or a slender crescent in the night sky, she reminds me that clarity will come in its own time.
And so, month after month, I find myself eye-to-eye with the moon, asking her, “What message do you have for me?”
Her response is always silent.
But her luminosity has a way of reassuring me, “You’ll figure it out.”

We’ve become intimate friends, the moon and I. She is my guide, my confidante, and an inspiration of how I want to move in the world.
So when a special Halloween celebration came around, the moon was on my mind.
I wanted to embody her enchantment: calm, still and luminous.

And, naturally…
My husband would be my astronaut.

Just like the moon, we move through our own phases.
We wax when we feel bright and full of life. We wane in moments of quiet and reflection. Sometimes, shadows fall across us.
And yet, we always find our way back to the light.

Perhaps that’s why I find such comfort in looking up at her. Through every change, she reminds me that even when I can’t see the light, it’s still there.
And whenever I forget, there she is again.
My old friend, the moon.
